Take Back Pride at Magik Press ZINE PARTY!

Celebrate Queer Liberation, Protest, and Punk at the Upcoming Alt Pride Event!

New Haven, CT – Saturday, June 1, 2024 - This year, join us in taking back pride at Magik Press ZINE PARTY! Happening on Saturday, June 1, at the New Haven Pride Center, this event is a pride celebration for us, by us, embracing all things queer AF, protest, and punk. This event aims to reclaim Pride Month from pinkwashing and corporatization, and to break the silence surrounding the ongoing genocide in Palestine.

Event Details:

  • Date: Saturday, June 1

  • Location: New Haven Pride Center

  • Zine Fair: 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM

  • Basement Punk Show: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Zine Party will feature a dynamic lineup of activities and events that celebrate queer culture and activism:

️ Zine Fair (12:00 PM - 6:00 PM): Showcasing Black, Brown, and Queer vendors

️ Food Vendors: Enjoy a variety of delicious food options from local vendors like Havenly and Momma Kiss Kitchen Cuisine

️ Skillshare Workshops: Participate in hands-on workshops including zine making, Free Palestine collaging, sticker making, and sticker activism

️ Sticker Wall: Featuring stickers made with images from a radical protest and antiracist archive, which will be open for exhibit at the Pride Center later this year!

️ Live Painting and Window Art: Watch queer artists create live art pieces and check out window art displays throughout the event

️ DIY Punk Show (6:00 PM - 8:00 PM): Experience an electrifying punk show in the basement featuring a Queer/Trans lineup of bands.

We are especially excited to spotlight the work of zinesters and organizers advocating for the liberation of Palestine. Their presence and contributions underscore the deep connections between Palestinian and Queer liberation. Be sure to check out zines that dive into this important relationship, available for sale at the event.

Additionally, we will be hosting a FreeCare healing space for those who wish to connect and discuss recent attacks in Rafah and the issue of pinkwashing, which diverts attention from the ongoing genocide. Pinkwashing is a term used to describe the practice of using LGBTQ+ rights to downplay or distract from other human rights abuses.

Donation Details:

  • Suggested Donation: $10 (all door fees go to pay the bands)

  • No one will be turned away for lack of funds. There will be plenty of free zines, stickers, activities, and even free food, clothes, art supplies, and books available at our Free Store, supplied by both Magik Press and the New Haven Pride Center

Come celebrate Pride with us, and connect with a community dedicated to collective care, creativity, and activism. Masks required.
